Pitts S1-C
The S1-C is the "Flatwing" Pitts Special, which was the first model for which plans were offered back in 1962. The S1-C uses the M-6 airfoil on both wings, and has ailerons on the lower wings only (afour-aileron model is available). It has a bungee landing gear and metal turteldeck. The "C" stood for the 100 hp O-200 Continetal O-200 engine, but nearly all S1-C ended up with 180 hp Lycomings. The fuselage was later extended three inches. A quantity of S1-C were factory-built in Afton, WY. Today, the S1-C is the"benchmark" version. Nearly all homebuilt S1´s used S1-C plans for the fuselage and tail, with supplemental wing plan options. Steen Aero Lab offers S1-C plans and full line of components.
